In the past.....
The original concept of the sensory room began in Holland in the late
seventies. They were designed to relax a client whilst allowing
exploration in a relaxing safe environment. Since then, these rooms have
changed dramatically and more emphasis has tended to
be placed on interaction, learning and offering the client
/ pupil control over their surroundings. These rooms
are generally known as a multisensory environment, multisensory studio, or
multi sensory theme studio and usually allow the user to switch
various equipment on and off, offering limited interaction.
The future has arrived.......
Our unique Sensory Theatre (TM) is a brand new concept and a
giant leap forward in sensory room technology. It
utilises our already established, patented DST wire
free technology, allowing infinite possibilities with the added
benefit of no unsightly and perhaps unsafe cables around the
room. Praised by OFSTED (the UK educational inspection body), the core of the
theatre is our ‘Simple DST Multimedia’ Windows based software.

nostrils. The only limit is your imagination, and
it's all extremely easy to do!

The Sensory Theatre is the ultimate teaching tool. You can
improve switching skills, motor skills, colour, number and shape
recognition, develop cause effect and social interaction skills, stimulate
through a variety of forms or just simply relax. It can be based on the
National Curriculum or used solely for relaxation. Maybe your room needs to be
stimulating or perhaps you want the best of both worlds and you want the room
to be used for stimulation as well as relaxation. The choice is now yours.
What makes the Sensory Theatre so much better than other systems
available?.....
Our DST product range was specifically designed to be used for
simply and effectively teaching people with learning disabilities. Add to
this our revolutionary Simple DST Multimedia software, and you have an
extremely powerful combination. The software was written by our own
software engineers to meet the demands of special needs teachers /
carers. The software natively knows what all
the products in a sensory room are used for and uses terms widely
known and used by carers. The combination of this as well as listening to
the needs of our customers, is the secret to
it's extreme effectiveness. It is surprisingly simple to
use yet very powerful, easily performing effortlessly in any situation.
The system is so simple to grasp that we guarantee within 10
minutes, even someone who has never used a computer before will be
creating exciting learning environments! It really is that easy!
By comparison, alot of other systems available make
use of products primarily designed for installations in discos,
not in a sensory room. This is made worse by controlling
the products using software which was again designed for the
disco industry. These systems can produce results but at the expense
of much greater complexity, as they were never designed to be used in
a learning environment. There is a software system which we will
mention because it is quite widespread. It is called Show Magic*,
though has been re-named Sensory Show Magic and is being sold to
learning establishments. This software was primarily designed
for controlling disco / stage lighting, and was not specifically
written to be used by carers to promote learning. Of course,
our software was primarily designed to promote learning so we
wouldn't even try to sell it to a disco! Please

Furthermore, our Sensory Theatre is not dependant on the computer
or software.....
Another major consideration with other systems available (like those
using Show Magic type software) is that alot of the equipment used is very
much dependant on the computer. At first glance, this doesn't
seem much of a problem, but take away the computer and this equipment will
do little if not nothing, offering very little educational
value. Have problems with the computer or software and you're maybe
re-arranging your classes for the week!
In comparison, every item that makes up our Sensory
Theatre system was designed as a learning tool in its own right,
and is totally independent of the computer.
All the equipment is quite happy to function as learning
tools whether the computer is there or not. Furthermore, the
equipment will also interact with each other irrespective of having
a computer or not. Maybe the carer doesn't even want to turn
on the computer, and just wants simple interaction... no problem in the
Sensory Theatre. Quite a huge difference, we're sure you agree!
Do we provide training courses on how to use the Simple DST
Multimedia software?.....
Gosh no.... we don't need to! Our philosophy is, if you need a
training course to use it, it is obviously far too difficult to use and needs
re-writing! Our software is so intuitive and simple that you will master
it in about 10 minutes. All of our installations come complete with a free
one day on-site familiarisation course which is more than enough time
to see how easy and effective our equipment
and software is.
Stimulating the senses.....
Many new products have been designed for use in this exciting
new environment. The DST Aroma Panel, DST Variable Speed Fan ,
DST Vibromat, DST Minidisc, DST Video Projector and various lighting units
easily provide stimulation through the Smell, Touch, Hearing, and Sight senses.
Taste can be easily introduced directly by the carer.
